The Quarr Abbey Art Gallery, near Fishbourne, Ryde, will be showing a collection of distinctive, handmade, hand-carved studio ceramics and painted wall art by island artist Andrew Dowden. Andrew will be in attendance at the exhibition and will be happy to discuss his work. All pieces are for sale and Quarr Abbey, a registered charity, will receive a percentage of all exhibition sales.
Andrew draws inspiration for his work from many sources including: archaeology, architecture, machinery, engineering and nature. The wheel is central to the work from which many forms develop, including composite slab-built pieces. Using a limited glaze palette, he strives to achieve complementary forms and surface textures, hand-carving being a primary interest, the colour of the clay body being integral to the surface design.
